#PartnersForChange – Youth Day Miles for Smiles Run/Walk

June is Youth Month:

“The children of any nation are its future.

A country, a movement, a person that does not value its youth and children does not deserve its future.” – Oliver Tambo.

These apt words uttered by the late Oliver Tambo encompass the ethos of what Youth Month in South Africa represents this June.

The theme this year is:

“The year of OR Tambo: Advancing Youth Economic Empowerment”

Education is the cornerstone to empowering our youth.

We begin at the formative age where the children attending our Early Childhood Development Centres throughout South Africa are given the best possible chance to be readied for schooling.

This is and will remain a huge focus as we continue to empower our youth and provide them with each and every opportunity there is.

What did we do on Youth Day?

On the 16th June 2017 our annual Miles for Smiles Run/Walk event in support of Operation Smile South Africa took place outside the NSRI in Melkbosstrand just outside Cape Town.

We were once again very fortunate to work with such amazing #PartnersforChange organisations namely; event organisers Trail Fun and event partners Miltons Matsemela, Ooba and Cipla South Africa.

This year the Miles for Smiles Run/Walk attracted almost 700 participants of all ages who took part in either the 3km or 6km distances.

The event raised over R 20,000 which will help Operation Smile provide 4 surgeries to young South Africans empowering them with the life changing surgery and right to a smile.

Organiser Japie Swanepoel of TrailFun said that they are delighted to be involved in this run for a good cause and hope to be involved again in 2018 for the 3rd running of the Youth Day beach run.

“The team from Miltons Matsemela would like to thank all the participants, partners and contributors who helped to make the Miles for Smiles Youth Day beach run such a success. Although youth day this year meant that many people took a long weekend, we still managed to raise enough funds to perform four corrective facial reconstructive surgeries for kids.”

We would like to thank everyone who came out and took part with special mention to Trail Fun, Miltons Matsemela, Ooba and Cipla South Africa for their continued support of our Miles for Smiles initiative and we look forward to next year’s event.

A special thanks to all involved.
