Turning dreams into a reality

We are pleased to announce that our Miles for Smiles partnership with STBB has raised R 450,000 for Operation Smile South Africa; a total of 81 children’s lives that will now be changed forever!

The STBB MTB Challenge and STBB Twilight Run events took place on 20 & 21 October 2017 at Overgaauw Wine Estate in Stellenbosch just outside of Cape Town.

The goal was to raise funds for Operation Smile South Africa who help individuals and communities with corrective surgery on cleft lip and palate.

How did it all start?

“The STBB4GOOD initiative is now in its seventh year and Annetjie van Rooyen from STBB is the brainchild and inspiration behind this event.”

“A little while ago we met at a function and she was so keen to get involved and support Miles for Smiles. The nicest thing about this event is that every single person that participates; mothers, fathers, sons and daughters – are doing it for something bigger than themselves, they are tackling this challenge because they want to make a difference,” says David Grier, Cipla Foundation managing trustee and adventurer.

STBB4GOOD has developed a reputation as one of the “must-do” events on the sporting calendar with 650 entries for the Twilight Run and 1300 participants in the Mountain Bike Challenge this year.

The Twilight run consisted of 5 km or 12 km distance options while the Mountain Bike Challenge offered 60 km, 45 km, 30 km, 12 km and 5 km options.

Aside from breathtaking scenic routes and water tables with lots of delicious treats, there were also plenty of amazing prizes and lucky draws.

Looking to the future

We have seen that establishing good relationships and developing partnerships that drive impactful collaborations is the key to implementing change in South Africa.

“We do this event to raise money and we cannot do it without the people that support us and Cipla have been a major part of that and we are particularly thankful,” says Jonathan Steytler, CEO of STBB.

“We are really very appreciative of this fantastic partnership and we hope that it grows year on year,” acknowledges Lauren Bright – Country Manager Operation Smile South Africa.

These partnerships are fundamental to the Cipla Foundation South Africa and we are extremely grateful to have STBB onboard as a Partner for Change as we look forward to a long relationship.
