The story so far:
A couple months ago the Cipla Foundation South Africa, David Grier and Leapfrog Property Group embarked on a highly ambitious partnership to support the Cipla Foundation’s Miles for Smiles initiative which raises money for Operation Smile in South Africa.
For the last 10 years both David Grier and Leapfrog Property have been on separate journeys and have now come together for one purpose: Creating Smiles to the Power of 10! All as part of Leapfrogs Property’s 10-year anniversary celebrations!
Out of this partnership the Leapfrog Smiles: To the Power of 10 campaign was born with the goal to raise enough money over a 10 month period to give 100 smiles.
Every 3 minutes, a child somewhere in the world is born with a cleft lip or palate. Sadly, 1 in 10 of these children will die before their first birthday. From as little as 45 minutes one cleft lip surgery, which costs approximately R5 500, can change a child’s life forever.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
Throughout Leapfrog’s 10-year journey through the pledge and commitment of each one of their agents and members of staff, Leapfrog Property Group will therefore help change the lives of children born with this condition, by sponsoring 100 cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries throughout 2017.
“As an agency that’s striven to transform the real estate industry we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate a decade in business than to partner with David and Miles for Smiles to radically alter 100 children’s lives by sponsoring lifesaving corrective surgery”, says Bruce Swain, MD of Leapfrog Property Group.

Growing up ashamed and enduring ridicule was not easy for John Kibari and although his mother sought help, access to surgery proved futile. It was only a chance encounter in a shopping mall parking lot and the committed care of Operation Smile South Africa that allowed this effusive gentleman the opportunity to finally show the world his smile. “I was helping a lady and when she saw my lip she asked what had happened. I told her that I had been born like that. She gave me a website address and told me about a man called David Grier who could help me,” explains John.
John was able to receive surgery during the Operation Smile mission in February 2013 and since then his life has changed for the better. The surgery has not only changed the way John looks but has seen his personality blossom and with it a career change too.
Through the experience John has committed himself to being an advocate for Operation Smile and speaks to other potential patients explaining the procedure.
Partners for change
We are very excited by this partnership and looking forward to working with great organisations like Leapfrog Property Group in helping to change the lives of children who need cleft lip and palette surgery.
